We strengthen the teaching and learning of Chinese and English to enable our students to be biliterate and trilingual, i.e., be conversant with written Chinese and English, and be able to speak fluent Cantonese, Putonghua and English.
With this target, we strive to create a motivating language learning environment to help our students achieve those competencies. In junior forms English is adopted as the teaching medium in some classes for certain subjects, while extended English learning activities are carried out for other subjects. Allowing students to learn outside the classroom, cross country cultural exchange programs are held under our collaboration with secondary schools in Germany and Singapore. There are also various after school English classes provided, ranging from English Enrichment Programs to English recitation practices. Currently, we are cooperating with the British Council in offering IELTS exams and Cambridge English courses.
On the other hand, in order to improve the Putonghua skills of our students, we have strengthened Putonghua teaching in Chinese and Putonghua lessons and hold Putonghua classes after school, in which professional tutors are hired to help students prepare for recognized public exams to equip themselves for further studies or their career after graduation.
In S1, English Medium of Instruction (EMI) is applied for whole forms in Integrated Humanities and Science. EMI will be extended to other subjects in S2 and S3, including Project Learning (S2) and Elementary Economics, Business and Accounting (S3).
To strengthen students' exposure to English in all S.1-3 classes, about 25% of class time is used on extended English learning activities, which cover quite a number of subjects, including Mathematics, Science, Integrated Humanities, Liberal Studies, History & Culture, Geography, Religious Education, Computer Literacy, Home Economics, Music and Visual Arts.
In our Senior Secondary Level, students may choose either English or Chinese as their learning language for the following subjects like Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies.
